How Judgment can be the Ultimate Obstruction of Vision

What does it take to learn God’s simple order of what is just and right, how to embrace His way of loving-kindness and walk in humility? God had revealed a simple truth through the prophet Micah to make a big point. “And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8). How can we really walk in such manner?

RELEVANCE

David learned that God values humility. More than that, He requires it if you want to experience His favor.

“The humble He guides in justice,
And the humble He teaches His way.
All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.”
(Psalm 25:9-10)

In our own strength, however, we can’t easily walk in humility. It takes God’s grace and strength through the Holy Spirit. It takes following the Lord’s example. One thing Jesus was clear on; it takes embracing a universal truth of the Kingdom of God—removing the speck of judgment from your eye.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:1-5).

REFLECT AND RELATE

Are there unkind or critical judgments you have held towards others?

Can you see how freeing your eye from judgments can open your eyes to greater clarity of vision from God?
