Discerning Truth and Wisdom in Crisis Management

Some crises erupt suddenly without notice. Sometimes advance warnings do come, but we are desensitized to their warnings. Our best solutions during a crisis will come crying out to God for His wisdom and divine intervention.

RELEVANCE

If we seek God’s wisdom, He will show us His solutions. In 2 Kings, chapter 2 there is a story of a crisis where the water supply of the city had gotten polluted, and the ground had become barren. It lacked nutrients to be fruitful. The prophet Elisha shows up on the scene with God’s solution; go to the source of the water supply and throw some salt in it. They did. The water became purified. All were blessed and happy.

The story reveals several truths:

  • God often has simple solutions to complex problems
  • We need to be willing to receive His grace, wisdom and counsel
  • We need to address to the root, or source of the problem
  • God can use people of faith filled with His Spirit as salt and light to bring solutions
  • We simply need to be willing to be God’s instruments

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind” (James 1:5-6).

REFLECT AND RELATE

God’s truths are typically hidden beneath the surface, protected like a rare pearl in its shell, reserved for the Master’s use. Wisdom teaches us to be on the lookout for potential calamities; but at all times trust in the LORD.
