No matter what subject you seek God about, He will lead you to discover that wisdom, integrity and faithfulness are keys to walking in His ways.
RELEVANCE
My father was an accountant. Like most accountants, he knew a lot about accounting standards and rules of finance. He also learned from many of his clients that making money was easier than keeping it. He was so right! There are multitudes of books on the subject of money and finances. It’s a popular subject. The world revolves around it. In the long run, however, God’s standards will always prove to be the most real and relevant.
Solomon learned this lesson the hard way. He was once considered the most wealthy man of his day. He, however, made some critical mistakes. What did he learn? “Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich” (Proverbs 28:6).
The prophet, Haggai, reminded the children of Israel of this very truth; and the consequences of its reality.
“You have sown much, and bring in little;
You eat, but do not have enough;
You drink, but you are not filled with drink;
You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm;
And he who earns wages,
Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.”
Haggai 1:6
Lord have mercy! Jesus did have a bit to say on the heart of the matter; being a faithful steward. “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has” (Luke 12:42-45).
REFLECT AND RELATE
As you consider your finances, always ask:
- What is just and equitable in God’s eyes, “as for me and my house?”
- How can I demonstrate integrity?
- How can I be found faithful?
