God desires to guide us through life in a dynamic way. If we obey His promptings through the Holy Spirit we will have opportunities to see God’s creative solutions and participate in His amazing testimonies. It takes simple childlike faith. It also takes being sensitive to His Holy Spirit; then responding in prayer to listen attentively and with discernment.
RELEVANCE
Years ago a particular single man I knew had been impressed by God to begin looking at houses. He couldn’t understand why. He didn’t need one. His apartment suited his needs. But he simply obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Little did he know God was having him work through what would prove to be an amazing testimony.
One day he called me to go with him and look at a particular house. As we toured the home, something began to arise within me. It hit me that God seemed to be bringing him through this exercise, not necessarily to buy a house, but possibly prepare him for something else. The sense of him being a father in a family came to me in a strong way. I wondered, could God be preparing him to marry into a family; perhaps marry a single woman with children?
It seemed a bit odd to me, so I kept the matter in my mind, and prayed further about it. Later in the day, I stepped out on a limb in faith, and told him I believed it could be likely that God was preparing him to marry a single parent—a woman with children. He understood, and nodded with a peace in his heart.
Some time later, another man we knew became ill with brain cancer. Shortly thereafter, God took him up to heaven. He left a wife and three children. Several months later, the single man befriended the widow. Soon they began dating. He eventually married her! God had so prepared the man to marry into a family and be a father, that he gave each of the children a ring; to signify his covenant with them, and commitment to them to be their father.
Seeing these events unfold over time was precious. We witnessed the working out of God’s plan in a real and amazing way. He provided for the family. He went before the woman and the man to prepare a solution in a way only God could. We witnessed His amazing grace in an awesome way.
God honored our simple childlike faith and obedience to His Spirit. It was an amazing testimony of God’s faithfulness and how God orchestrates events over time for His greater purposes and glory.
