The Testimony of Suffering Gives Hope

The greatest things we can share with others, especially future generations, are our testimonies; the things God worked in and through us. They are His testimonies. They glorify Him and build faith in others.

RELEVANCE

Several people have said to me over the years that I should write a book. God has been very present in my life. What these people point out, however, is how I have been observant and sensitive to the ways God has worked in my life and led me through many difficult times. He wants us all to see how present He is in our life. He wants to give us hope that we may be able to give it to others.

“Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!” (1 Peter 3:13-17 NLT).

REFLECT AND RELATE

Think of the ways God has been present in your life. You may not have been aware at the time, but you can surely recall times a grace or higher power beyond you helped you through situations. There are no coincidences. God with His host of angels watches over us. We just aren’t aware unless or until He gives us the grace to see with eyes of the Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 2).
