When God told Moses His name, “I AM”, He was revealing a deep truth. His name means “to be and become.” It conveys a sense of eternity; past, present and future. He is the source of all causes. Moses, therefore, proclaimed the following to describe God to the people.
“For I proclaim the name of the LORD:
Ascribe greatness to our God.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,
A God of truth and without injustice;
Righteous and upright is He.”
(Deuteronomy 32:3-4)
Moses conveyed that God is the source of all truth. As justice is weighed in the truth, He executes perfect justice; which is righteousness. What does the Hebrew word for truth really mean? It conveys firmness, security, fidelity, faithfulness, stability, truth.
RELEVANCE
Solomon made an interesting comment: “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). He understood that man’s best efforts were limited. Sovereign Almighty God maintains the right to reveal and manifest truth; and overrule man’s plans.
Solomon learned from David, who experienced God’s divine presence and direction. David learned how to follow God. He learned that His ways are truth and He will guide us in all truth if we seek Him. Even in our failures, the God of truth will have mercy.
“Show me Your ways, O LORD;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.”
(Psalm 25:4-5)
REFLECT AND RELATE
What truth do you seek? Ask God for truth beyond the surface; but the often hidden deeper truth. That’s where the wellsprings of joy are found.
