Many companies have activity models with metrics that measure work productivity. That seems reasonable since the world’s economic models are quantity based, not quality based. God’s economy, however, works differently. He looks at qualitative metrics; those that represent substance of heart. He looks at the greater picture of our virtues and values to measure things like integrity, justice and equity.
RELEVANCE
I once thought the quicker and harder I worked, the more I would accomplish. God brought me through great pains to teach me that diligence and haste were very different dynamics. Diligence measures qualities like consistency, continuity, integrity and efficiency of effort. Haste moves rapidly, but lacks real effectiveness. God looks for fruit that remains; fruit that is durable because it comes from durable, noble hearts.
To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion…” (Proverbs 1:3-4).
God gives wisdom for us to work His way. Our ways are not His ways, but His ways are higher than ours. Solomon, once the richest and wisest of His time, learned a key lesson:
The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all” (Ecclesiastes 9:11).
In other words, life is not all about gaining quick riches, expressing outward strength, finding satisfaction in temporal things, seeking knowledge to gain wealth or an advantage to compete successfully. Real prosperity is experiencing the grace and favor of God to live in His real joy.
