Many people have a limited understanding of God because they have a one dimensional view of God. God is multidimensional and offers us a multidimensional perspective of His nature.
RELEVANCE
It has always startled me how many Christians pray “in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” yet their view of God is one of “the baby Jesus” or merely the man, Christ . Jesus taught the disciples to pray in His name to the Father, yet many seem to lack understanding of the Father or nature of His love. Similarly, many lack understanding of the nature and active ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Paul tried help people gain a strengthening view of the multidimensional nature of God so they could forge a strong relationship with God and be blessed through that relationship. For that reason, he prayed that you would be “able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16-19).
It’s important to note, however, how he frames his prayer, acknowledging the relationship within the Godhead; “I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”
Peter, too, had such a perspective. He, likewise, framed his entire message in 1 Peter with the view of their respective roles; “To the pilgrims…elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.”
REFLECT AND RELATE
Meditate on the roles and relationships within of the Godhead:
- Foreknowledge of God the Father
- Sanctification of the Spirit
- Obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ
In what ways can you actively engage with God relating to these respective roles?
