The Basic Truth of Walking in God’s Authority

Isaiah prophesied of the Messiah and His authority to rule in the earth. What was the full message he saw and apprehended?

“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,
My Elect One in whom My soul delights!
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.
He will not cry out, nor raise His voice,
Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.
A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench;
He will bring forth justice for truth.
(Isaiah 42:1-3)

Truly, the same Spirit is able to work in those who believe, trust and walk in Jesus Christ. This is what Paul revealed and exhorted believers to embrace: “the riches of the glory of this mystery…Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).

RELEVANCE

Towards the end of His ministry the Lord shared deep truths about the kingdom of God and administration of His kingdom in John 14-17. What He spoke of, the early disciples in fact experienced and recorded in Acts. To the student of the scriptures who embraces the ministry of the Spirit, several things become evident: a)“Jesus Christ (and His Spirit) is the same yesterday, today, and forever;” b) the Holy Spirit is the source and manifestation of God’s creative and redemptive power; c) God requires that His servants walk in the fear of the Lord, being sanctified, holy vessels of His Spirit; d) His authority is administered in integrity, humility and obedience.

Unfortunately, there are many counterfeits in the world. We must, therefore, know God and the character of His Spirit. Doing so is the key to walking in spirit and truth and preventing what Paul refers to as “having a form of godliness but denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:5).

REFLECT AND RELATE

As God unveils truth, ask Him to place you in environments where He can and will demonstrate the working of His power in real ways.
