HomeKnowing GodIntimacy with GodStrengthening Your Connection with God

Strengthening Your Connection with God

God wants us to enjoin with Him in a relationship marked with communication with Him by His Spirit. If we can connect and communicate with others via a cell phone, we can connect and communicate with God! He whispers through His “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12). As we learn of Him and know Him by His Word and Spirit, He strengthens our connection. He desires that we grow in discerning His voice.

RELEVANCE

David, the man after God’s own heart, understood the principle of being united and joined with God by His Spirit. He came to appreciate the value of connecting with God. He truly identified with the heart of God. He came to know real intimacy with God.

Teach me Your way, O LORD;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
(Psalm 86:11-12)

Just like a wireless or cellular connection, you can’t see any physical connection, but you know you hear somebody’s voice, and somebody hears yours!

God’s connection with us is similar. It’s a spiritual connection. As in any wireless connection, however, you know the nature of the connection depends on a number of things. For one thing, we know there are good zones and bad ones. The carrier transmits the signal, but the clarity depends on the strength or quality of the connection. Sometimes, though, there are simply gaps in the connection. God wants to bridge the gaps! He wants us to have a strong connection with Him! He wants us to connect with His capacity—which offers us access to His awesome and amazing grace.

In discerning God’s voice, it is important that we consider the many distractions and illusions of the world. We are challenged to hear God and discern truth. God is patient and waits for our attention. He seeks clear reception.

REFLECT AND RELATE

What things do you think obstruct the clarity of God’s voice? Ask God to reveal how your connection might become stronger and how to discern a reception issue from a deception issue.
