In the beginning we learn how God created by shining His light through the darkness. Interesting to note, darkness is always there before light enters. Yes, God has designed challenges for us to experience to teach us valuable lessons as He brings us through life’s process for the purpose of transforming us into the image and nature of His Son.
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:2-4)
RELEVANCE
Darkness exists until light—God’s truth—shines through! Truth typically takes time to manifest. If we ask for truth, it will show up; and provide clarity where there is confusion, wisdom when in need of solutions and confidence to press forward.
God speaks to us several ways. He speaks through His still small voice– the whisper of the Holy Spirit– piercing through the clamor of much thought and words if we are still inside long enough to listen. He also speaks through wise affirming counsel. Then we know His light has pierced through our darkness! The sweetness of His truth always tastes better than the sour taste of falsehood and deception.
Peter, James and John experienced an interesting dose of this. They witnessed Jesus, Moses and Elijah conferring with one another during the Transfiguration. Peter wrote about it.
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts… (2 Peter 1:16-21).
We won’t have opportunity to experience that particular event, but we will have opportunity to connect and meet with the Lord through prayer and communion, engaging in the Scriptures and with the Holy Spirit. Through such communion, we receive His light of truth and gain insights into God’s reality to walk in strength and confidence.
REFLECT AND RELATE
When truth tarries, ask God why. He is waiting for a reason. Typically, He is waiting for us as we search through the darkness of our mind, waiting for His Spirit to penetrate our heart. As the heart becomes willing to desire truth, it comes in largeness of measure!
