Seeing How God is Jealous over His Relationship with You

We have heard that God is a jealous God. Of what is He jealous? His creation! You and Me! In reality, He is jealous of His love; the intensity of His kind of love towards His children. He is jealous of His passion that comes from His nature. He is also jealous of His bride; the bride of Messiah—Jesus Christ—those in faithful covenant with Him.

That’s why He goes to all measures to protect His love and not have it desecrated by infidelity; allegiances to foreign gods—idols made of the imaginations of the minds of man. He is jealous over His relationship with His beloved.

RELEVANCE

God looks to see who shares His passion, and seeks such a relationship with Him. “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).

One such individual God found was David. He loved the precious presence of the LORD. David knew His habitation was a place of great glory, joy and peace. “LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells” (Psalm 26:8).

David experienced the LORD’s jealousy over the relationship. He experienced His salvation in times of distress and places of danger. He experienced the rich fulfillment of God; His goodness, mercy, and liberty; and strong footing it gave him. He called that strong footing, broad and wide places.

“He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me” (Psalm 18:19).

You have known my soul in adversities, and have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place” (Psalm 31:7-8).

Let yourself be captured by the amazing love of God! It’s yours for the asking. You might find others wanting to experience it.

REFLECT AND RELATE

Meditate on how David experienced such rich fellowship with the LORD.

Keep a prayer journal of your engagement with God. See how your relationship with Him progresses.
