Relating with a Relevant God

Many people today see a lot to be skeptical of the reality of God. Confusion abounds as to who God is, how God is represented, how to relate with and worship God. Without personally experiencing God and relating with God by a genuine faith, you can at best form tentative opinions about God.

Regardless of your environment or culture, however, God is able to invade your space, relate with your soul and become relevant in a personal way; for He is Creator. He knows how you are wired. He knows the storms and stress you have been subjected to.

RELEVANCE

The world is and will always be corrupted and polluted by man’s imperfect nature. In responding to the world and our environment, we tend to drift towards either escaping from or controlling the environment to avoid what we don’t like in the world. We are pain-avoidance creatures. God would have us respond by tapping into His capacity and power; His strength and wisdom in confronting and persevering through our situations, and apprehending His wisdom to come to creative solutions—that He be glorified.

Here is where God becomes relevant in our life. He knows the fabric of our life. He sees the colors of the threads that have woven our tapestry—our story. He knows which ones have suffered pain and trauma, which ones have experienced dysfunctional environments, which ones have lacked love and which ones have been removed from His truth and life. He knows how to infuse His love and life to revive the hungry, lost and desperate; the weary, confused and curious.

As scripture says, “it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God… Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested” (Hebrews 2:17-18).

The Good News is Jesus can and does RELATE TO US! He seeks out His sheep and also appoints the times and seasons to seek Him. He speaks to His sheep and they can hear His voice.

REFLECT AND RELATE

Invite God into your situation. Challenge Him to relate to your space. See if He may surprise you.

How would you want the LORD to relate with you?

What issues would you like to discuss, bring to the table?
