Receiving God’s Grace to Avoid Deception

We all have interests and desires. God has given us all gifts and talents as well as righteous desires. His will is for us to use those gifts and talents in wholesome ways that bring glory to Him, our Creator.

God will, therefore, draw us to desire righteous things to be used by our God-given gifts and talents for His good purposes. What we have to be careful about, is evaluating the true purposes of God. That’s where discernment comes in. If we are driven by unrighteous desires, God withdraws His promptings and leaves us to our own interests.

RELEVANCE

There is a story in the Bible in Genesis 25 about a man names Esau. His father, Isaac, had good things for him; a valuable inheritance. Scripture tells us, however, that Esau was a weary man. He lived in a state of despair. He was short-sighted and lacked faith. When an opportunity came for him to trade his inheritance for a plate of food, he took the food. Then he got angry and the desire to kill his brother entered his heart. He found no place for repentance. Bitterness drove his life. He cursed himself. God ultimately provided redemption, but it cost him much pain of heart.

God always provides grace. He will always give us an opportunity to humble ourselves and repent; change our disposition and incline our heart towards righteousness. The way of grace is made apparent in the LORD, Messiah Jesus Christ.

REFLECT AND RELATE

If you are feeling deprived or denied, ask God what the real issue is. If you are feeling angry, ask God where the anger came from. Be patient as the Holy Spirit seeps in your conscience and works in your heart. Crave truth and God will freely give it to you.
