God’s grace leads us to truth and wisdom. He knows all truth. He would have us discover truth to overcome ambivalence and confusion. Our challenge, therefore, is discerning the wisdom of God, coming to a place of conviction of heart and stability of mind.
We, therefore, need to understand God’s framework; His ways. For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16).
RELEVANCE
What typically keeps us from making decisions is discerning truth and weighing outcomes. So we really have to be careful about being truthful with ourselves and discerning our motivations. Do we want God’s reality; His truths? Do we want the outcomes He would want? The more we seek truth, the more we will be able to overcome ambivalence. James addressed this issue.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning (James 1:16-17).
Interestingly enough, the Greek word variation (parallage) means fickleness, variableness. So God’s mind doesn’t revolve around conditions, opinions or agendas. He isn’t fickle. We are. He waits for us to come to truth and conviction of heart so we come to a fixed, stable mindset—in union and alignment with Him.
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:6-8)
REFLECT AND RELATE
David had to learn God’s proper order. It took Solomon years to learn what he did about the wisdom of God. We can get to know God through His Word and Spirit, and learn from those who have spent years learning of God.
Think of how you come to decisions. What’s your paradigm? How do you seek truth? How do you weigh truth and falsehood?
