Jesus came to earth to teach people how to trust God. He knew the history of the children of Israel: the suffering for 400 years in Egypt; the wandering for 40 years in the wilderness; the rise and fall of the nation during the years of the judges, kings and prophets; the captivity of Babylon; the centuries trying to live in faith and peace in a hostile world under Roman rule. He had compassion on the multitudes. He tried to emphasize how important it is to live trusting in God’s faithfulness; trusting in God above trusting in riches, man’s traditions or any other form of security.
“But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:24-25).
RELEVANCE
One thing Jesus did marvel at was seeing genuine trusting faith; especially amongst non-Jews. One such individual was the centurion who had enough faith to believe that just speaking a word of healing would heal his sick servant. When Jesus heard his heart, scripture says, “He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even inIsrael!” (Matthew 8:8-10).
At the same time He marveled at the lack of faith inIsrael. In one particular place He could do little to minister to the people. “And He marveled because of their unbelief” (Mark 6:6).
The LORD still wants to minister His life to hearts trusting Him. He looks to see where He is welcome. “And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (John 14:21).
REFLECT AND RELATE
The Shepherd still seeks after the one lost sheep; the one hungry and thirsty for Him. He looks to make His presence known. Ask Him how you can demonstrate that you trust Him to manifest His presence.
