How Father God Directs our Will

The LORD instructed us to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). He meant for this prayer to not be a form of repetitious prayer, but topics of prayer. He knew one key guiding light in life is discerning and agreeing with the will of God; and coming to peace with God.

The thing is God wants us to seek Him about what His will is. That helps us know Him and relate with Him. Otherwise we pray to a distanced or unknown God. That’s why Paul exhorted believers, “Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17).

RELEVANCE

Daniel learned that coming to the understanding of God’s will takes earnest prayer, time, and patience. Our faith will be tried. A spiritual battle awaits us.

The heavenly messenger came to Daniel and said, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings ofPersia. Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.”

I once contracted to build a house, but had difficulty selling the house we were in. So, the construction came to a halt. God was challenging me to seek Him to make sure we were in His will. One day while I was praying, God gave me specific understanding of certain things. The word to Daniel came to me. So, I told my wife I believed we would have an answer in twenty-one days. On the twenty-first day we got a call from people who had seen the house, asking if it was still available. The next day they presented a contract! What an amazing testimony of God’s faithfulness.

REFLECT AND RELATE

How do you discover the will of the LORD? Earnestly desire His will. He will give you the opportunity to prove to Him you will follow His will. Keep seeking His will daily. Ask Him to continuously reveal His will. Show Him you will respond in trusting faith to His will.
