Hope and faith work together. We can’t expect to have hope if we don’t have faith—or trust in God. Hoping in anything else will just be vain. Hear David’s heart.
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!” (Psalm 27:13-14).
RELEVANCE
David learned this during the years he spent running for his life in the wilderness. He experienced pain and trauma; but also God’s consistent relief. David knew fear and faith were opposites. He didn’t fear man; nor put his trust in man. He walked in the fear of the LORD; and likewise God was his source of confidence.
“Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident. (Psalm 27:1-3)
