We make decisions based on what our conscience tells us. We can read God’s word for wisdom and to understand His ways, but must be sensitive to the Holy Spirit for discernment of truth. Reality is the Holy Spirit will reveal what the conscience is truly willing to receive and respond to.
RELEVANCE
When God’s word and Spirit resides in your heart you can’t help but love God and love others. As you do, you will discern the Son and honor Him.
Jesus faced many who had to choose to believe or deny Him. Many knew the Scriptures and retained them in their head; while others truly had a greater relationship with the living God and kept His words in their heart. Such could discern the Son, who represented the Father and came in the fullness of His Spirit. Such honored the Son, and experienced God’s grace.
Jesus knew who honored Him and who didn’t. He could discern who lived just in the natural realm, and those who lived in the spiritual realm; those who truly had God’s word and Spirit in their hearts and connected with Him as Messiah and Lord. Those who honored Him honored the Father; and likewise would be honored by Him.
“I do not receive honor from men. But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God”? (John 5:41-45).
“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor” (John 12:26).
REFLECT AND RELATE
How does your life reflect your honor towards the Lord? Pray about how you may be able to show honor in even greater ways.
