In a world where people will steer you in diverse ways and offer all types of counsel, God’s truth knows no substitute. That’s why discernment is critical. The truth will not always be readily apparent. Truth is often obscured and concealed. God allows this to test our heart. He wants us to cultivate discernment as life will always put us in positions to evaluate choices and make decisions—in trusting faith, based on truth.
RELEVANCE
David, the man after God’s heart, was a man who hungered for truth. He made his share of mistakes, but learned that life’s best course is walked with a heart earnestly desiring truth: to know the truth at all costs and walk in it. Such is a heart in union with God.
“LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly,
And works righteousness,
And speaks the truth in his heart;”
(Psalm 15:1-2)
“Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom” (Psalm 51:6).
“Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name” (Psalm 86:11).
David hit it on the nail. Truth brings us into real unity with God. How else would you want to live?
