God knows the deeper truths. We may conceal our deepest desires and fears, brush the truth under the table and keep the mere (more shallow) situations and circumstances on the table, but sooner or later deeper issues will be exposed.
The good news is God first tugs on our heart to bring us to private repentance before Him. All He looks for us to do is come clean before Him and confess our inner motivations, desires and fears; then turn towards righteousness—which is found in Christ. That’s the kind of real repentance God responds to.
“The humble He guides in justice,
And the humble He teaches His way.
All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.
(Psalm 25:9-10)
Do we always walk in such manner? Are our paths always flowing in “mercy” and “truth?” How many times do we wonder what’s really going on in a situation? God would offer more insight.
“Justice is turned back,
And righteousness stands afar off;
For truth is fallen in the street,
And equity cannot enter.”
(Isaiah 59:14)
What does it mean, “truth is fallen in the street?” We ignore truth. We have a propensity to not want to know or deal with truth. It makes us be honest with ourselves and others; and we don’t always like to be put in that position. Ouch! God will be patient until we desire—better yet—crave truth.
REFLECT AND RELATE
As you cry for God’s justice, call for truth. He will bring forth justice in truth; and have mercy. What issues might God be tugging on your heart to deal with?
