Running the race of life will certainly get you weary. Then there are times you feel you just need to get away. Maybe there’s another situation you are facing; perhaps experiencing some sort of pressure or tension. Maybe you’re even on the run. Regardless of your situation, God is faithful to strengthen you. He gives rest to the weary and strength to continue pressing into life.
The Bible records the story of how Elijah called fire from heaven and killed hundreds of false prophets. Immediately thereafter, Jezebel, queen ofIsraelput out a contract on his life. So he ran and ran until he was depleted of strength. An angel finds him and gives him some food. We soon thereafter learn that “he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God” (1 Kings 19:8).
RELEVANCE
Sometimes we have to endure a bit until the LORD rescues us. While we are waiting for Him we are not idle. He keeps us occupied. As we abide in Him, however, in prayer and devotion, He weaves strength into us. He binds up our wounds and binds us into rich fellowship with Him.
“He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
(Isaiah 40:29-31)
REFLECT AND RELATE
As you wait on God, keep a journal of your devotions and engagement with Him. He shares the most touching things, comforts us and reveals secrets that give us strength to carry on.
