God cares about our security. Our society, however, pressures us to place trust in counterfeit security systems and illusions; things founded on falsehoods. God, however, wants to be our first line of defense; our security.
God truly is the real source of security to those who place their trust in Him. Concerning Israel, God revealed, “For I, says the LORD, will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst” (Zechariah 2:5). God wants to be the glory in your midst.
RELEVANCE
The prophet, Ezekiel, caught God’s perspective of this. He saw how we place trust in mad-made systems—false fabrications. He spoke of walls being held together by untempered mortar—falsehoods of false prophets not tempered by the fire of God’s love and truth. “Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace–and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar– say to those who plaster it with untempered mortar, that it will fall” (Ezekiel 13:9-11).
Walls shelter and protect. They mark boundaries. We need walls. God’s spiritual walls, however, are built with the mortar of His truth and love. His walls provide true peace of soul. We may not be able to put a lot of trust in the words of mortal man, but you can put your trust in God and His Word.
“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil” (Proverbs 1:33).
My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation,
In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places,
Though hail comes down on the forest,
And the city is brought low in humiliation.
(Isaiah 32:18-19)
REFLECT AND RELATE
In what sources or systems have you been placing your trust, your security?
Whose words have you trusted; then found them to be untrustworthy?
