Jesus spoke mouthfuls about light. In the beginning of His ministry He declared how believers are the light of the world. Later on He shared how He is the light. His main point related to how believers have the capacity to be bearers of His light; and should be encouraged and find confidence in being representatives of His light.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
RELEVANCE
Think about how sunlight is absorbed by plants and synthesized, or transformed into chemical energy to sustain life. In the same manner, God’s Light—Christ in you through the Holy Spirit—has the capacity of producing life giving and sustaining energy. God’s Word is truly living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12). When the light of His Spirit illuminates seeds of His Word and its life transforming properties are absorbed into our bodies, a real chemical reaction occurs! As the seeds continue to be watered real healing and spiritual growth is manifested.
Think also how darkness existed before God said, “Let there be light.” Darkness always occupies a place before light is introduced. It’s the same with life. Because of the fall of man, areas of darkness are always present in us before God’s light pierces through the darkness, creating new life. He commands His light to enter our life to manifest His glory in and through us—in the image of His Son—so we radiate in His image, for His glory.
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).
The key is being fertile ground and a willing recipient of His command—and His light.
