Experiencing the Joy of God’s Light and Truth

Sometimes our greatest trials of life involve walking through places of darkness, where we find ourselves doing things we never thought we would do; confronting issues beyond our capacity to comprehend.

We seek hope and search for light in the darkness. As long as our eyes desire to see Him above all, and our heart desires to find our joy in Him, eventually He will light the way; and fill us with His sweet joy.

RELEVANCE

David was in a dark and desperate place, surrounded by those seeking his life. In his gloom and darkness God eventually shined a great light that guided him to triumph after triumph. The Holy Spirit was David’s faithful companion, revealing truth and comforting him. Let his words stir your heart and encourage you to persevere to the joy of the Lord.

The pangs of death surrounded me,
And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD,
And cried out to my God;
He heard my voice from His temple,
And my cry came before Him, even to His ears…

For You will light my lamp;
The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
For by You I can run against a troop,
By my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the LORD is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

For who is God, except the LORD?
And who is a rock, except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength,
And makes my way perfect.
He makes my feet like the feet of deer,
And sets me on my high places.

(Psalm 18:4-6; 28-33)

Hearing God’s voice– the whisper of the Holy Spirit– is like eating honey or a sweet candy bar! It brings real delight and sweetness to your heart; a settling deep within that brings God’s peace.

REFLECT AND RELATE

What are the things you find the greatest pleasure in? What sets your heart radiating with pure joy? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal something real and relevant to you; what may bring you even greater joy.
