Engaging in a Real Intimate Relationship with God

Many people find it challenging to relate to God, especially in the context of our complex society. Can we relate with God the way generations of people have in the past? Does God still engage with people in real and relevant ways? The truth is God has us on His calendar; and He wants to get on our calendar! He seeks those desiring to connect and relate with Him in a real-time relationship.

RELEVANCE

God’s challenge, you might say, is getting our attention and keeping it; getting us in sync with Him, following Him the way we follow one another. When we do connect, we find God the most relevant source of strength for life! The key is engaging with God relationally—from the heart—as opposed to rationalizing about God from an intellectual standpoint.

David understood the principle of being joined with God by His Spirit. He identified with the heart of God. “Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O LORD my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore” (Psalm 86:11-12).

Note, the Hebrew word used for unite is yachad, which means, joined into one. It conveys an intimate coming together as one; an intimate union. David was sensitive to God’s Spirit. One time after committing a grave sin, he earnestly prayed, “Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit” (Psalm 51:11-12).

David certainly had a unique connection with God! You can too. You might relate this connection to a wireless, or cellular connection. You can’t see any physical connection, but you know you hear somebody’s voice, and somebody hears yours! As in any wireless connection, however, you know the nature of the connection depends on a number of things. The carrier transmits the signal, but the clarity depends on the strength or quality of the connection. Sometimes, though, there are simply gaps in the connection. God wants to bridge the gaps! He wants us to have a strong connection with Him! He wants us to connect with His capacity—which offers us access to His awesome and amazing grace.

REFLECT AND RELATE

What do you think it takes to come into a yachad intimate union with God?

Ask God to fine tune your signal. You will be blessed as He does.
