Embracing the Truth of Sanctification

We live in a world where truth is relative to one’s interpretation, what one considers right in one’s own eyes. In courts of law, however, evidence and facts are brought in to reveal truth; at least that’s the purpose for admitting the evidence. Where conclusive evidence is lacking the judge or jury has to interpret the evidence in the context of the testimonies. This is called due process of law—to execute due diligence in coming to truth. Our relationship with God can only exist in truth. God knows all truth. His purpose is to bring us to the knowledge of the truth—His truth—which liberates the soul.

“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32).

RELEVANCE

Jesus revealed that truth sanctifies, or cleanses and refreshes the soul. It frees you from bondage. It makes you more sensitive to the working of the Holy Spirit. It helps you have discernment to make wise decisions. Jesus specifically asked this of the Father before being crucified.

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth” (John 17:17-19).

Paul warned believers not to take truth lightly, but encouraged the love of truth. It shelters one from deception and living in delusion. He specifically revealed how Satan deceives those who do not “receive the love of the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:10).

“But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth… “(2 Thessalonians 2:13-14).

REFLECT AND RELATE

Conduct a truth inventory. Write down things you believed in that proved to be a lie. There is no condemnation. God wants to sharpen your discernment and help you grow.
