God created man to be free. Yet since the beginning, man has become enslaved in many forms of bondage. Some forms of bondage become apparent in very physical ways. Others are more spiritual or psychological in nature. Such are often less apparent, but very real. Coming to the truth will ultimately reveal true freedom.
RELEVANCE
I’ve known many people to define freedom in economic terms. History teaches us, however, that freedom is a deeper issue; encompassing social, economic, religious and political variables. Every aspect of life defines our degree of freedom.
The LORD added a twist to the concept of true freedom. He shed a new light on what freedom really encompassed in John 8:31-36.
“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Many people think truth is a relative; relative to facts, circumstances or personal perspective. Yet real truth is deeper. It encompasses more than facts like what, who, when and where; but why and how. These variables are often more complicated. People seem to care less about them. But God weighs them heavily. They reveal deeper truths. They connect realities, making things more relevant. In God’s eyes, true freedom is discerned in the context of a relationship with Him; Creator of life.
REFLECT AND RELATE
In what area are you looking to experience a greater measure of freedom?
As they relate to the issue of freedom, ask God to define the particulars of what, who, when where, why and how. Abide in Him and He will reveal it to you.
