Discerning Foundations of Hope

Have you ever bet on horses or gambled for any length of time? Those who have know that in the long run, the house always wins. You may have a hot streak and ride a wave of success. If you do, you will find yourself placing trust in falsehoods and in the wrong sources– especially self; definately a false foundation. You won’t have peace; but lose more hope. That’s what being wise in your own eyes is. Wisdom bets on God. He always wins! In Him we find real peace.

“Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him” (Proverbs 26:12).

RELEVANCE

In high school I hung around older kids who loved to go to the local horse racing track. Then I met a man who seemed to win a lot. So I started listening to him. You can guess the end of the story. In the long run it cost more than money. Then I started listening to God; and my odds changed! His track has proven to be a winning track. His way is a way whereby we access His grace, which always leads to victory and peace. The apostle Paul shared real truth on this.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1).

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13).
