The most difficult thing for human beings to see is pride. We all have built-in mechanisms of survival; to save self from death. One thing God goes to all ends to deliver man from, however, is the pride of life; pride that exalts self. That self-exalting pride of the self nature must be crucified to experience true life in God. Unfortunately, we resist such a death to the self nature. We are blind to it. Our loving Father, however, is relentless to get us to see it.
RELEVANCE
Job was a faithful man. He had a genuine fear of the LORD. God allowed Job to go through his horrible trial, however, to reveal such hidden pride.
“Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out;
They cry out for help because of the arm of the mighty.
But no one says,’Where is God my Maker,
Who gives songs in the night,
Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth,
And makes us wiser than the birds of heaven?’
There they cry out, but He does not answer,
Because of the pride of evil men.”
(Job 35:9-12)
God finally did make His point. After 41 chapters of discourse, Job’s eyes were opened.
“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,
But now my eye sees You.
Therefore I abhor myself,
And repent in dust and ashes.”
(Job 42:5-6)
REFLECT AND RELATE
What trials has God been allowing to get to your innermost soul?
Let Him pierce through the darkness. Be diligent to stay with God to see truth the way He wants you to see it.
