Being Freed From Guilt and Shame Brings Real Peace

We often try to justify ourselves not only before God, but before others. Sometimes it’s because we feel rejection. Other times it’s because we simply feel we have to earn approval. Regardless, we don’t have to justify ourselves before God. That price was paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ!

Jesus came as Messiah and “humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8). He once and for all satisfied God’s requirement for all to be considered justified, or righteous in God’s eyes. “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

RELEVANCE

This performance-oriented world we live in causes us to think we constantly have to justify ourselves. Not before God, though. The blood of Jesus was shed to totally discharge you of the penalty of sin and totally free you from guilt and condemnation—in His eyes. It simply takes confession from the heart before Him.

Jesus truly is “the way, the truth and the life!” In Him you have new life! Regardless of your past, God sees you as a new creature. He has accepted you, loves you, values you and wants to give you a healthy sense of self-worth and purpose—in Him.

REFLECT AND RELATE

Reflect on how you have tried to justify yourself before God or others. Confess any wrong attitudes or behaviors; then receive the forgiveness and mercy of God. It’s free for the asking!
