David meditated about the Lord’s goodness continuously. He appreciated His faithfulness. Psalm 23 reflects how he called Him his Lord and shepherd. Think about that for a moment. If the Lord appeared before your face how would you respond?
Two things come to mind; how Joshua and Paul responded at first sight of the Lord. Joshua saw a man appear before him by Jericho. He asked if he was for them or his adversaries. When he heard “as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come” he fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?”
On the road to Damascus Paul saw a great light shine from heaven that caused him to fall to the ground. From within the light he heard, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ So he asked, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ When he heard, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting’ he simply replied, ‘what shall I do, Lord?’
It’s interesting how both immediately fell to the ground and simply asked what to do. What reverence! What submission! What obedience! Could you imagine what the Lord might say to you if you approached Him daily in such manner?
RELEVANCE
Paul was given a tremendous measure of grace. He experienced God’s presence in a very real way. He caught the revelation that EVERY soul should be postured in such humility, reverence and submission to the Lord.
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).
There have been times in my life when God has answered prayer in such an incredible way that I could do nothing but get on my face, weep and worship. The reality of His love and power will do that. It brings me to my knees daily.
REFLECT AND RELATE
How do you respond to God’s goodness?
Ask God to help you “taste and see” (Psalm 34:8) His goodness in a real way.
