Paul said something that causes me to appreciate life and all God created: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made” (Romans 1:20). To think, God’s attributes can be seen in everything! That brings hope.
The Greek word for attribute is actually thing. So, everything created has God’s signature or earmark! Wow. Many scientists may think the world and all that is in it, specifically human life, is too complicated for a God to create. Other scientists see the same things but argue that it took an intelligent design of a Supreme Creator to create mankind.
It’s a glass is half empty vs. half full kind of issue. How do you see it? I’d rather give God the benefit of the doubt and be on God’s side of the argument. His Word and Spirit give me hope and convince me He is real and His capacity is infinite. What He has created and creates is simple incredible.
RELEVANCE
Solomon experienced more success than anybody of his time, or of many generations for that matter. He was known as the wisest man alive. After all his accomplishments, his successes and his failures, he had the wisdom to make several observations. One was this:
When I applied my heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done on earth, even though one sees no sleep day or night, then I saw all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. For though a man labors to discover it, yet he will not find it; moreover, though a wise man attempts to know it, he will not be able to find it (Ecclesiastes 8:16-17).
Who can compare to God? Consider Job’s conversation with God, specifically God’s monologue in Job 38-41. God posed many questions to Job asking how he could compare to God’s infinite wisdom, power and might concerning all the wonders of the universe. How could anybody question God after that? Job came away with a great love for God! He was left in awe of God. He appreciated being alive and living in an incredible world God created. All he could say was, “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You” (Job 42:5).
REFLECT AND RELATE
If you have ever been at a loss to find joy, meditate on what Job experienced; specifically the final outcome. It should give you hope!
