David, the man after God’s own heart, learned the value of allowing His heart to come into alignment and congruence with the character and nature of the LORD. He experienced great trials and knew He needed God’s grace and favor to make it in life. How did he find it?
David didn’t always have the right answers or solutions in desperate places. He learned, though, to call upon the Lord, seek His truth and wisdom and trust God for His solutions. In doing so, He learned the greatest key to life: having the favor of God. It is the lesson he passed onto his son, Solomon.
“Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh.”
(Proverbs 3:3-8)
RELEVANCE
Living in God’s favor is something God impressed the Hebrew people to value and seek. One day a young maiden discovered that in the grandest of ways.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS” (Luke 1:30-32).
REFLECT AND RELATE
In what ways have you acknowledged God’s favor in your life?
Keeping a journal is a great way to record your experiences, thoughts and lessons the LORD teaches you.
