When we are in need and no sign of relief can be seen God is poised to reveal His omnipotence and faithfulness. More than that, He prepares a banquet table to celebrate His glory. On the table is more than just enough. He is the God of beyond enough. He is the God of all sufficiency. He is the God who anoints and empowers us with measures of His unending grace.
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over” (Psalm 23:5).
RELEVANCE
God has a banquet table; in earth and in heaven. He also has two cups: the cup of salvation and blessing; and the cup of fury and indignation. How joyful is one, but miserable the other. He prefers to offer us the cup of salvation and blessing—here on earth as it is in heaven.
The issue is one of relationship with the Lord—our fellowship and communion with Him. For those who revere and worship Him there is a cup of salvation and blessing at the appointed place at the banquet table. It is a place to which we have unlimited access. How sweet is the substance of the Lord’s cup! How glorious is the access to His grace!
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:14-17).
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-3).
REFLECT AND RELATE
Whether in a state of abundance or lack, or as Paul would say, in a time of abounding or being abased, God looks for our gratefulness and appreciation for His provision. How do you express such gratefulness and appreciation?
