God wants you to be convinced beyond doubt that He will fulfill His promises of a new kind of life in Him. He will encourage you and demonstrate His faithfulness to give you a firm hold on the hope of Him fulfilling His purposes in and through you.
RELEVANCE
We often put God to the test. Gideon put two tests before God to give him confidence that God would do what He promised. Jacob made a “deal” with God so he could be sure God would keep him in the way He promised.
After not being able to have children for ten years, I confess I once committed something to God if He would give us children as He promised. He did His part. What you are reading is part of my commitment.
The truth is God doesn’t need our deals. He wants our heart. He will prove His faithfulness. The writer of Hebrews spoke of the promise God made to Abraham, and how God added to the promise His own oath to perform it. That oath gave him hope. We have the testimony to give us hope in God’s promises.
“God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls” (Hebrews 6:17-19 NLT).
REFLECT AND RELATE
What are you hoping for God to do? Ask God what His purposes are. Agree to be conformed and transformed into the image of His Son so He can fulfill His promises. He will lead you in a way according to His promises so you realize His greater purposes. That’s His promise.
