Discerning the Shift at the Crossroads

Crossroads typically indicate a shift in God’s direction. Wisdom and discernment are crucial. The crossroads is not a place to fear, but place trusting faith in God’s faithfulness and redemptive purposes. Crossroads lead to paths that advance us towards the places and destinies God has prepared and reserved for us.

RELEVANCE

God brought the children of Israel through two key crossings: the Red Sea and Jordan River. Both marked intentional shifts that were part of the plan of God. One delivered them from the bondage of Egypt; the other released them into their land of promise. Both marked shifts in the way of life the people had become accustomed to living.

Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,
That He might make His mighty power known.
He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up;
So He led them through the depths,
As through the wilderness.
He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,
And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.”
(Psalm 106:8-10)

God often allows conflict to arise before bringing us to a crossroads. He seeks to teach us discernment and wisdom. It’s important to understand that God has specific purposes and intents. They are for good; to bless us and glorify Him. He, therefore, seeks to teach, train and prepare us for new endeavors that bring new fruit and good success!

And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might observe them in the land which you cross over to possess (Deuteronomy 4:14).

Before every crossroads or crossing point in life, God prepares us one way or another. He may cause us to be so uncomfortable that we desperately want a change. He may bring new experiences and assignments to prepare us for what’s ahead. Conflict and adversity often work to birth new things. They stir our creative juices.

Reflect on how you have been prepared for a next step. Listen attentively to those around you and for God’s whispering voice speak to your heart.

REFLECT AND RELATE

What things has God taught you to carry forward?

What good things do you see on the paths ahead?

How is the Holy Spirit prompting you?

What discernment is God giving you relating to His purposes?
