Living United with God

Knowing the difference between being in alignment with God and out of alignment is crucial. If we want to walk with God, we have to be in step with God. I learned a crucial message several years ago: there is grace at God’s pace.

King David, the man after God’s own heart grasped a profound truth: unity with God is the prerequisite to blessing; not just any blessing, though—eternal blessing.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! …For there the LORD commanded the blessing — Life forevermore” (Psalm 133).

RELEVANCE

The apostle Paul grasped hold of this truth. He had the revelation that Messiah Jesus came to fulfill God’s purpose of being the final sacrifice to atone for sin and grant eternal life with God in heaven. As we receive Him as LORD and receive His sacrifice, we come into unity with God and place ourselves under His dominion—or Law of the Spirit—and under the authority of His grace.

That behooves us to live in union with Christ—in alignment with His ways of life. Out of alignment so to say, we predispose ourselves to sway off course; be influenced by the sways of the devil, the authority over the dominion of darkness.

“For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:5-11).

It’s about coming into harmony with God; being in sync with His rhythm. Yes, there is a rhythm of heaven. It’s how we keep in step and pace with God. We find that rhythm in the place of prayer, being dedicated to the Lord, engaging with the Lord in real two-way conversation. The Holy Spirit illuminates God’s truths, keeping us in sync with God.

REFLECT AND RELATE

As much as we need to check the alignment of our auto every now and then, we likewise benefit from knowing our alignment in Christ is fine-tuned. Ask God to calibrate your alignment. Allow the Holy Spirit to strengthen you and lead you through adjustments.
