Gaining Authority through Wisdom

The world holds high regards for wisdom, power and wealth. Many believe wealth buys power and infers wisdom. God would challenge such thoughts.

God reserves the right to execute His sovereign authority and might: sometimes through providence, natural and supernatural occurrences; at other times through human agents and agencies. For that matter He advises man to enter into relationship with Him to know Him. Within such a relationship, He exercises His lovingkindness, judgment and righteousness in the earth, often through the endowments of His creative wisdom and gifts working in willing participants.

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the LORD.”
(Jeremiah 9:23-24)

RELEVANCE

Joseph and Daniel were two individuals through whom God exhibited incredible authority. Both were placed by kings in special places of authority because they knew God intimately and obeyed His voice.

God entrusts authority to those who will get to know Him, trust Him and value His wisdom so they will walk in it. He administers His authority through such agents who will act faithfully and responsibly, and will be accountable to Him and earthly authority.

Solomon learned that wisdom comes at a price: a committed heart towards God. When he aligned his heart with God, he had incredible wisdom. When he sold his heart to lust, he lost his wisdom; and eventually the kingdom.

REFLECT AND RELATE

Ask God for a heart of wisdom; and with it the character and virtue to be entrusted with it.
